Soft 100% Whole Wheat Rolls

These are, in my opinion, hands down, no questions asked, by far the best whole wheat rolls ever made.  Period!  Unlike many other whole wheat rolls that I have tried these are soft, light, fluffy and definitely not dry or dense in any way.  I found this recipe via Pinterest over at anoregoncottage.  I am sure glad I did, these are now my "go to" or "the one" recipe for dinner rolls.  Make them.  Trust me you need them in your life.

Soft 100% Whole Wheat Rolls
2 Tablespoons Yeast
1/2 Cup Warm Water
1/2 Cup Butter, softened
1/4 Cup Honey
3 Eggs, room temperature
1 Cup Milk, room temperature
1 Tablespoon Distilled White Vinegar
1 and 1/2 Teaspoons Salt
4 and 1/2 to 5 and 1/2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
Dissolve the yeast in the water in a small bowl, set aside.  In the bowl of a stand mixer using the paddle attachment cream the butter and honey.  Add the eggs and mix until combined.  Add the milk, vinegar, and yeast mixture, stir until combined.  Add 3 cups of the flour and the salt, mix until combined.  Switch to the dough hook and add the remaining flour and mix for 2-3 minutes until a soft dough is formed.  The dough may look sticky, but if touched your finger should come away with no dough stuck to it.    Leave the dough in the bowl, cover and let rise for 1 hour in a warm place.  Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.  Knead a few times, cover and let rest for 5 minutes.  Divide the dough into 24 pieces.  Shape into rolls and place(4 rolls across and 6 rolls down)  in a greased 9x13 inch pan.  Cover and let rise for 1 hour.  Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.  Remove from the oven and rub over the tops with a stick of butter.  Enjoy!

Yes! Thanks for posting this! We are 100% whole grains in our house, so I don't do most homemade breads. I am pinning this and will try it later, they look delicious!

We only eat whole wheat and you are does have a different texture. Sometimes I crave the lighter texture of white bread. These look like a great option for those times. "Remove from the oven and rub over the tops with a stick of butter. Enjoy!" You bet I will! My mouth is watering just thinking of that butter melting.

2 Tablespoons of yeast sounds like way too much (?)
